GENERAL

Reverse osmosis plants are used to produce high-quality demineralised water. It is used extensively in the food and beverage industry, pharmaceutical, hospitality, educational Institutions and the electronics industries.

Reverse osmoses is the best filtration process so far as it is capable of refusing bacteria, salts, proteins, particles, dyes as well as other harmful constituents. The dissolved ions like salts that are charged have stronger chances of getting rejected than those organic that are not charged. This process allows absolutely pure and safe drinking water.


WORKING PRINCIPLES

In its simplest presentation Reverse Osmosis system is a membrane process. That acts a molecular filters to remove (permeable to water not salt and separating pure water and salt solution, by applying external pressure) dissolved mineral, organic, inorganic and heavy metals. It will also remove microbial matter including bacterial spores and viruses, which cannot remove by any ion exchange technique from water.

Reverse Osmosis systems in their basic form consist of a pressure pump and a high pressure housing containing a semi-permeable membrane. Water is forced into the housing under pressure and pure water or permeate is collected from an outlet and passed to service. Rejected water, or concentrate, is collected from another outlet and routed to drain to prevent a build up of salts on the membrane itself. In order to keep the amount of water to a minimum, a proportion of the concentrated water is recycled back to the inlet of the pump.
